Below is a list of airlines currently serving Cairns (as of 1/04/16):

Air New Zealand (Seasonal)

Air New Zealand operates Airbus A320 aircraft to Cairns from Auckland. This seasonal service began in March 2016 and is expected to end in October 2016.

Air New Zealand will also operate Boeing 777-200 aircraft on some of these services later during the season.

Air North

Air North is a regional airline based in Darwin, Northern Territory. They operate a daily flight to Cairns from Darwin via Gove and a thrice-weekly service from Brisbane West Wellcamp (Toowoomba) using Embraer E170 aircraft.

Air Niugini

Air Niugini flies from Port Moresby to Cairns a couple of times per day using Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 aircraft. They also operate flights to Cairns from Lihir Island and Rabual using Dash 8 Q300 and Dash 8 Q400 aircraft a couple of times per week.

Airfast Indonesia

Airfast Indonesia flies to Cairns with McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft, normally every Monday morning from Timika. During the afternoon, the MD-82 departs back to Timika.

Alliance Airlines

Alliance Airlines is a Fly-in Fly-out (FIFO) charter airline. From Cairns, Alliance flies to Groote Eylandt, Lawn Hill, Cloncurry and Trepell using Fokker 100 aircraft and the occasional Fokker 70.

Asia Pacific Airlines

Asia Pacific Airlines is a subsidiary of Cobham. They operate three Dash 8-100 aircraft from Cairns to Tabubil, Papua New Guinea.

Cathay Pacific

 Cathay Pacific fly to Cairns using Airbus A330-300 aircraft four times a week. The route is as follows:  Hong Kong - Cairns - Brisbane - Cairns - Hong Kong.

China Eastern operates seasonal flights to Cairns from Shanghai Pudong using Airbus A330-200 aircraft and the occasional Airbus A330-300. This service operates during the summer months.

Hinterland Aviation

Hinterland Aviation conducts Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) flights and charters to locations across the Cape and the outback. Hinterland Aviation uses Cessna 208B Caravans, Cessna 402's, Cessna 404's, Cessna 310's and Beechcraft Kingair 200's.

Hong Kong Airlines

Hong Kong Airlines operates a triangular service to Cairns from Hong Kong via the Gold Coast using Airbus A330-300 aircraft. After a short stopover, the aircraft then returns to Hong Kong. This service operates two times per week.


Jetstar is a low-cost airline that serves Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Darwin and the Gold Coast from Cairns using Airbus A320's and Airbus A321's. 

Jetstar also operates international flights out of Cairns using Boeing 787-8's to Narita and Osaka daily. In March 2015, they also began services to Bali using Airbus A320 aircraft three times per week.

Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines began flying to Cairns in December 2015. The airline operates an Airbus A320 from Manila, and after a short stopover, the aircraft continues on to Auckland. It returns to Cairns from Auckland later that day and then departs back to Manila. This service operates four times per week.

Qantas operates flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne using Boeing 737-800 aircraft multiple times per day.

Cairns is an operating base for the regional airline, QantasLink. They operate Dash 8 Q400 and Boeing 717-200 aircraft from Cairns. 

The Dash 8 Q400's serve Horn Island, Weipa, Hamilton Island and Townsville, whilst the Boeing 717-200 aircraft operate to Darwin, Brisbane, Alice Springs and Ayres Rock.

Qantas Freight

Qantas Freight operate Boeing 737-300F aircraft into Cairns from Brisbane via Townsville about four times per week. Cairns also generally receives a weekly Qantas Freight Boeing 767-300F flight from Auckland. After a short stopover, the Boeing 767 continues on to Hong Kong.

Regional Express (Rex)

Regional Express (Rex) is Australia's largest independent regional airline. From Cairns, Rex offer a daily service to Bamaga (Northern Peninsula), as well as a service to Mount Isa via Normanton, Mornington Island & Doomadgee on weekdays. 

In July 2015, the airline also began operating three services to Townsville every weekday.

SilkAir is a full-service subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. It operates Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Cairns on the thrice-weekly service.

On Mondays and Thursdays, it arrives from Singapore via Darwin. After a quick turnaround, it departs to Singapore direct.

On Saturdays, it arrives from Singapore direct later departs to Singapore via Darwin.

Skytrans bases its fleet of Dash 8-100 aircraft from Cairns. Out of Cairns, Skytrans services Aurukun, Weipa, Bamaga, Horn Island, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Coen, and Pormpuraaw.

Tigerair (formally Tiger Airways) operates daily services from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane using Airbus A320 aircraft.

Toll Priority

Toll Priority operate Boeing 737-300F aircraft to Cairns from Brisbane four times per week. After a quick stopover, the aircraft continues on to Darwin. 

Toll also operate either a Fairchild Swearingen SA-227 Metroliner or an ATR 42-300 from Mackay multiple times per week.

Virgin Australia

Virgin Australia (formally Virgin Blue) operates Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800 and Embraer E190 aircraft to Cairns. They operate services from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne a couple of times per day.

West Wing Aviation

West Wing Aviation have a base in Cairns. They operate a fleet of over 25 aircraft consisting of: Cessna 208B Caravans, Cessna 402C's, Cessna 404's, Aero Commanders 500S, Britten Norman BN-2 Islanders, Beechcraft Kingair 200's and a Beechcraft 1900D. 

From Cairns, they operate flights throughout Cape York and Far North Queensland. West Wing Aviation also have other bases in Townsville and Horn Island.
