All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 787-9 JA839A Diverts to Cairns

During the late hours of Monday 14th December, All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 787-9 JA839A diverted to Cairns.

The Boeing 787 was operating Sydney Kingsford Smith (YSSY) - Tokyo Haneda (RJTT) as NH880.

A while later, it continued on to Tokyo Haneda (RJTT) as NH880.

  1. What was the reason for this flight to divert?

  2. From listening to ATC on scanner it sounded like medical diversion

    1. Anon, your information was spot-on. I had a Japanese friend translate a tweet from a Japanese passenger onboard that flight. Apparently a passenger was taken from the aircraft & placed in an ambulance with all other passengers remaining onboard. Aircraft was refuelled.
