Rex Commences Operations From Cairns

On Thursday 1st January, Regional Express (Rex) commenced operations from Cairns.

The New South Wales-based regional airline has taken over the 'Gulf Run' from Skytrans.

It it was awarded to them in October 2014 by the Queensland Government after a competitive tender process.

The 'Gulf Run' consists of: Cairns - Normanton - Mornington Island - Burketown - Dommadgee - Mount Isa and return.

Rex will be operating 34-seat Saab 340Bs on the route.

Saab 340B VH-ZLQ had the honours of operating the first flight from Cairns, whilst fellow Saab 340B VH-ZLH was the first aircraft to operate the return flight.
