China Airlines A330-300 Makes an Emergency Landing and an Air New Zealand 767-300 Arrives

Two bits of news from today:

  • The first - China Airlines Airbus A330-300 B-18358 operating CI52 from Sydney (YSSY) to Taipei (RCTP) made an emergency landing in Cairns early this morning because of an engine failure.
According to ABC News the A330-300 suffered the engine failure over Cape York. The aircraft carrying 218 passengers landed safely at Cairns shortly after 3:00am.

The plane is still parked at Cairns Airport on Taxiway Golf. It is unknown as to when it will depart.

  • This morning Air New Zealand Boeing 767-300 ZK-NCG arrived from Auckland (NZAA) as ANZ171. Two hours later it departed back to Auckland (NZAA) as ANZ170.
It is not a common sight to see an ANZ 767-300 in Cairns. Interestingly, this 767-300 has had 3.4m winglets fitted to it which apparently reduces fuel consumption by 6.5%.
